Every school has its clubs. Menstrual health deserves one too.
The Menstrual Health Society is a student club that brings menstrual health and hygiene into the ordinary school week. Members meet, learn and lead, all term long, not just on a special day.
A club, not a once-a-year talk
Menstrual health usually comes up at school on one awareness day, then disappears. A club keeps the conversation going and puts students in charge of it.
A special event
- Happens once, then it is over
- Students listen to a visiting speaker
- Questions come up later with nobody to ask
- No record of who took part
The Menstrual Health Society
- Meets regularly during the school’s club period
- Students learn, discuss and run activities themselves
- A teacher coordinator is always within reach
- Every member is registered, so progress can be followed
What members do
The club gives students accurate information and the confidence to talk about periods without shame.
Learn the facts
How the menstrual cycle works, hygiene, safe products and when to see a health worker.
Talk openly
A safe space to ask the questions students are too shy to ask anywhere else.
Lead as ambassadors
Members take what they learn to classmates, younger students and their families.
Look out for each other
Boys and girls learn together, so no student is teased or left out of class because of a period.

A programme of the Flow with Pride Health and Empowerment Foundation
The Foundation, formerly Flow with Pride Impact Hub, works to end period poverty and stigma in Nigeria. The Menstrual Health Society is its schools programme, with its own home here.
When students talk about menstruation every week, it stops being a secret and becomes part of growing up.
Bring the club to your school
Joining is free for every school. Principals, teachers and parents can start the process, and it takes about ten minutes to apply.
